Bristol hospital staff take to electric bikes

Southmead Hospital in Bristol has taken on two of our electric bikes to encourage cycling among staff. The bikes can be used by staff to try out cycling to and from work and during their working day instead of using cars. The scheme looks set to be a great success and we reckon the staff will love their new mode of transport particularly as the sun has decided at last to shine!

Addenbrooke’s goes for pedal power

STS have delivered the first batch of Addenbrooke hospital’s fleet of pedal assist electric bikes and snug cycle storage. The famous heart hospital wants to encourage staff to go the extra mile and cycle to work and between sites on campus. A bit of an electric boost is the way to do it!

The cycle pods provide a great solution to locking away the bikes and look great too. Tucked away safe and dry the bikes are protected from theft, vandalism and the elements.

STS shortlisted for Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) award

We’re really delighted to have been nominated by the NHS Avon and Wiltshire partnership for the 2012 LowCVP award for Low Carbon Innovation by an SME.

This is a great honour. The awards celebrate outstanding and innovative practice in accelerating the shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels and reducing road transport emissions. Winners will be announced on Tuesday 29 January.

This is the 10th anniversary LowCVP sponsored by BP Biofuels, Michelin and BAE Systems HybriDrive). The winners will go forward to represent the UK in the European Business Awards for the Environment.

Food Couriers are using our bikes to deliver gourmet meals to your door.

Food Couriers is a great new idea from Bristol. They run an online takeaway service from 16 of the city’s finest restaurants. The company are aiming to reduce the carbon footprint of takeaway meals in the city as well as the financial cost of eating a great meal from a top class chef.

We’re really pleased to be part of this kind of enterprise. It just shows how many new opportunities there are for electric bikes to help towards creating a greener and brighter future for all.

Tour results coming in

The main tour is coming to an end and has been a great success. We met with a fantastic response both for the leasing option of our electric bikes as well as the revolutionary new STS employee cycle purchase scheme we blogged about yesterday.
Out of the forty-three organisations we were invited to see, twenty-seven either want to lease bikes or take on the employee cycle purchase scheme.
We couldn’t have hoped for more. The 2012 tour has been gold for us.

32,000 NHS electric bike miles in 2011

Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership Trust have used our leased hybrid pedal assist electric bikes to cycle over 32,000 miles in 2011 visiting patients in and around Bristol. This is an average of 1,700 miles per bike – mileage that previously would have resulted in expenses reimbursement as well as parking fees for staff using vehicles.
